Music Theory lessons at Dr. J’s Music Studio and Academy are taught by Dr. John Seybert — an experienced educator, researcher, curriculum specialist, and former university faculty member with more than 25 years of teaching at the middle school, high school, and collegiate levels. His approach helps students make sense of theory in a practical, engaging way, connecting the “why” behind the music to the skills they use in performance, improvisation, and ensemble work.
Students receive clear, structured instruction that supports everything from foundational literacy to advanced analysis, AP Music Theory preparation, audition requirements, and college-level readiness. Lessons are paced based on individual needs, ensuring students build confidence while strengthening their musicianship from the inside out.
Drawing from his experience designing curricula, teaching pre-service music educators, and preparing students for honors ensembles and collegiate study, Dr. Seybert provides high-quality, academically grounded instruction that equips learners for long-term success.
Whether you’re learning theory for the first time or preparing for AP exams, auditions, or college placement, Dr. Seybert provides clear, structured guidance that makes theory meaningful, usable, and confidence-building.
